Barberskum

Seems a bit cavelier to me to use 13.5 volts on something that is only supposed to take 12volts :o

Over voltage will eventually fry the electronics of the scope and then you will have a dead scope. I would just quickly look around to get some disposable batteries for tomorrow night and hit the bar tonight. Its not worth the risk. The skies will still be there tomorrow night ya know :) .

just my humble opinion but I knows how much u luv ur scope an would hate to hear of any harm coming to it

Yes, that does sound like a better idea. Better safe than sorry. It's unlikely that the same head would fit anyway.
Noticed one thing: the "mA" you refer to. Is there any figure after that?

IT ARE PERFECTLY TOTALLY SAFE TO USE THAT VOLTAGE.

You never get just 12V from a good well charged car battery!
More like 14V.

P.S the "mA" (milli-Amperes) refers to the amount of current the device draws FROM the battery.

It has little to do with the battery.

Goes by the formula I=V/R where R is the internal rsistance of the gadget you are using.
(In inductive loads the formula is I=V/Xl or Xc depending on whether it is capacitive or inductive impedence.

(A motor is an inductive impedence.)

(A car battery can deliver hundreds of amps to the starting motor of your car on a cold morning to turn that heavy engine,it can effortlessly power that "milli-Amp" device!)

Peter,
Just wondering something as i don't know a whole lot about electrics:
Say I had a 12V 400mA power supply adapter and I wanted to operate a 12V 800mA device. What would happen if I tried to operate it with this power supply? Could I do any damage to the device or the power supply adapter?
Cheers,

Not being an expert in electronics/electrics myself I would suspect that you would damage your power supply as 400mA is the maximum supply the the adaptor can supply where the device needs 800mA. Device probobly wouldnt work properly as it is not getting enough amps
