The met office is actually forecasting clear sky tonight. If it actually happens I will give this a shot just to see. I will also take 10 x 30 second dark frames.
The weather will probably be completely pants though given that they forecast very heavy rain yesterday and all we had here was drizzle.
Phil, the article would be good though.

Sounds like a good idea Kieran. I know that was mentioned before, but I know for sure that a few more digital SLR's have been purchased (or gifted) by more members since. It could even be something Albert could use for ILPAC. You must set some guidelines for the kind of night in question e.g. Not all of us might have simultaneous transparent skies, even if some of us at that time have clear skies, know what I mean? Maybe when we get a string of good nights forecasted, you can let the boards know, and where /when possible, those with DSLRs can take part in your experment. You must also rememeber that some things might differ from the different manufacturers in DSLRs too.
Feedback?

Had a go at it last night before it got fully dark. Clouds and three airplanes ended up in a lot of the shots. A big bank of cloud was coming in so I took a 2 minute shot at ISO 800, F5.6 for the crack. The image below has been processed.
I'll do some reading up on it and hope for a run of clear skies.

Camera was on the mount. I did some astrometry/photometry on one of the single 30 second frames and I was getting down to mag 9.8 (assuming I did it right). Anything below that could be camera noise.

Love the shot Kieran...Great detail and sharpness in the field of view....
By coincidence, I happened to have my camera pointed in the same general direction last Sunday. This is a stack of 6 x 60 second exposures, ISO800, F5, EFS 18 - 55mm lens at 21mm....
It is heavily processed, due to extreme gradient removal etc... (lots of light polution)
The location was my back garden in Waterford Suburbia
