Very flat Celestron Power Tank

Hi all,

My Power Tank has run out of juice - I may have left it switched on after I used it a few weeks back. I've had it charging since yesterday afternoon and I know that power is getting through to it but the charging light isn't even coming on. Is it ever likely to recharge?

Sorry to hear about the powertank. If the battery as been left fully discharged for more than a few days the battery will most likely be damaged. Hopefully not.
If it is you may be able to get a replacement battery for the unit. I think the powerpack is similar to another commercial unit so I am sure a battery can be obtained.
I use two of the Halford powerpacks (both 20AH) with trickle charger so it can't be over charged. One of the reasons I got these is that I can get a replacement battery from Halfords when the battery starts to fail.

Thanks John. You wouldn't happen to have some details on the Halford units would you? I may nip up there and grab a replacement for the Power Pack.

I read of this happening to someelse on one of the "other UK boards".

The solution was to remove the battery from the unit and recharge with a car battery charger. Charge current no more then 2amps and after an hour it apparently came back to life.

Hope your battery can be saved.
The Halfords unit is a 20AH battery with two ciggie sockets (plus a flourescent light and the usual jumper cables and pump). They cost €83. You can't overcharge them using the charger supplied and they have a charge level indicator and reverse polarity alarm if you need to start the car with it. A few people have them. You can also get one with a 220V invertor and one ciggie socket for around €110 (useful for powering a laptop in the field). I have one of each.
BTW I was just in Maplins, they sell 7AH and 12 AH 12V batteries, if your is the 7AH unit it might fit.
