You aint far wrong. I remember one experience with not so fond memories. I shot an arrow off (as you do in archery clubs)...........it hit the target bounced off of it...........did a complete 180 degree turn and came right back at me.
Not sure what happened but the arrow landed right at my feet. It all happened so fast that my life didnt have time to flash past my eyes.
The shoot master Joe said that he had NEVER seen such a thing happen before in his life.

Hmm... is this a reflection on the dangerous nature of the sport then?

The silliest story about archery I've ever heard was from James McBoyle (gleth if he still logs in here!)
Basically he was involved with a reenactment group in the UK. And one of the things they did was give people the opportunity to shoot a Viking. Now this was always done at a good distance with an arrow that was fletched to slow down and had a nice un-aerodynamic blob at the other end. The Viking was kitted out in armour so he'd be fine in the unlikley event that an arrow actually hit!
Anyway in one town it fell to the Mayor to take the first shot. Jim was the Viking target. Somehow the arrow managed to fly true and landed in Jims eye where the shaft promptly snapped.
The first words he remembers hearing were "Its ok Jim its still there".
He has the arrow framed and I think it was presented to him by the Mayor a few days later
His eye was fine so its ok to laugh about it!
