Chris --

A worthy goal.

My average before the observatory was about 2 sessions/month; my average since has been 5 to 7/month.

Cheers,
-- Jeff.

Thanks Jeff,

I'm hoping to start it over the summer (got some renovations to complete on the house first). Not having to strip the CGE 1100 when I'm tired and cold will be a big plus.

I dont think you can attribute more monthly sessions to the building of the dome.

If so..................i'll build one tomorrow.

LOL.

Perhaps it depends on how dedicated you are. Before I had an observatory, there would be many evenings where I'd look outside at setup time and it would be cloudy. Later on it would clear up, but if I went out then my scope wouldn't be cooled down.

Other nights I'd set up, only to find it cloudy by the time my scope was cooled down. After a couple of these, if it looked iffy at all I'd just skip it.

I don't have either problem with the dome: the scope is always near ambient, and I can open it up / close it down in less than 10 minutes. When 17P/Holmes had its outburst, I even got a couple of 30 minute sessions in: 5 min to open up, 20 min for a sketch, 5 min to close, and then off to some shenanigan my wife had arranged.

Cheers,
-- Jeff.

Jeff i was joking of course. As long as i am awake i am always checking the weather conditions every hour.

I usually dont sleep til 4-5am.............so up until then if there is any window of opportunity...............i take it.

Hasnt happened much since Nov 2007.

Ooops... I misunderstood.

Sat and Sun nights are looking good, though. Moon doesn't set till 10pm Sunday, but that gives even folks like me (who turn into pumpkins not too long after midnight) ample time. ;)
