Dave

We could have a shoot out of the two cameras on the next available SAC observing night. It would make an interesting topic on the boards.

Dave

I have ordered the DBK21AU04.AS camera . See link below.

www.astronomycameras.com/en/products/usb...s/color/dbk21au04as/

This is the 60fps camera with the 1/4" chip. I decided to get the camera without the IR filter as I now have a 1.25" Baader UV/IR blocking filter as an add on anyway which screws into the nosepiece provided. I am thinking of investing in an IR transmission filter to look at some near IR work also (only €49). Apparently this is good for cutting through poorer seeing.
I m using the USPS service to see if I get hit for customs or not but it takes 7-10 days to arrive.

I have an OPT order on the way too. Shipped on Thursday. Twas very nearly a mirror of your order as well. I had actually ordered the Mono version of that camera, and filter wheel (have some colour filters) as well as a 5x powermate a few other bits and pieces and StarryNight Pro PLus.

Got an email from them informing me that despite the Orion Filter wheel not being flagged as non exportable on the site that it was not possible to ship it to me. This gave me pause for thought and I decided that it was madness for this newbie here who because of the weather only has about 10 visual observing sessions under his belt, to be spending so much on cameras so early in his observing 'career'. I've hardly seen many DSO's yet never mind photographed them!! :D

So anyway, I changed my order to a Philips 900nc webcam and took off the order the image Source camera and related bits and bobs. I'll see how I get on with the cheaper camera and the planets before I think about a more expensive cam and or a DSO cam. In that regard some think a DSO cam like an Orion Starshoot II is useless on even an EQ platform mounted Dob anyway while others say its possible with sub 30sec exposures and stacking.

It seems I have lots of observing experience to get under my belt and lots more research on astrophotography on EQ Platform Dobs to do.

Ditto with chancing your arm with OPT with regard to import Duty. I clicked the 'contact me with other shipping Options' when placing the order. I replied to the email from Rayna and told her that although I knew they probably couldn't mark down the invoice value (hint hint :D ) could they please send the package by USPS because they seem to interface with An Post who ironically are the least likely parcel delivery service to charge government import duty and tax. (Got that little snippet of information from this forum, Thanks guys! )

Time will tell whether it works. Though in saying that, last week I recieved two items. A new Moonlite Focuser via UPS that was marked at full invoice value and I was hit for €70 import duty. and the following day my Howie Glatter Laser collimator arrived via An Post and also invoice value marked down by Howie to €70. Didn't pay a penny in import duty on that one :D

Despite a slight delay at OPT the DMK camera has now arrived. It took a week to arrive by US postal service using their cheapest option.
No customs or duty :D :D
Can't wait to give it a go.

Likewise. There has been what seems like a record couple of clear nights in a row since Friday night last. When are you gonna get your kit out? :)
