Ah...
The lens is a 40mm f/10 lens in a plastic cell and so the whole thing would be quite thick/long - about 50mm approx.
The 140mm filter is also set in a plastic cell with total diameter of 160mm approx. I could remove the plastic from that one though, but that one isn't as critical as the 40mm one I was hoping to do.

You could run your own little industry testing filters, you'll be getting brown envelopes from manufacturers persuading you to pass their filters. :lol:

Might get away with it but the lens may distort the throughput signal. Any chance of posting a picture of the assembly?
