OK, delving into this a bit further, sidereal time is the same as the RA of an object when it is on the meridian.
So, only question remains how can I calculate sidereal time based on local time for my exact longitude?
Altenatively, I could buy a sidereal clock. Anyone know where I can get a digital version to hang on the wall in my observatory?

Whilst you can't hang this on the wall it is fairly handy.

Michael,

Please go back to the menu for the status bar and where you chose for the RA and Dec to be displayed on the status bar ... now also click "LST" and you should get local sidereal time.

Ah, thanks Anthony!

Thanks Jared for the links.
Of course, if I want a wrist watch version, I could get this:

SHUT UP...... £87,500,000.00 (serious Buyers Only???)
I suppose you would want to be a serious clock watcher....... :D

I have installed some serious atomic clocks for the IAA in my time, but nothing like for that money...

Michael,

Start using SkyMap Pro on a regular basis and you WILL become addicted to it. I have been using it for probably ten years and I really like it (obviously).
