Question for anyone who has imported a telescope.
If I buy a scope from germany and the price includes VAT,(@16%),
do I pay more VAT here? Also, what duty would I pay when it
enters the country here?
PAT.

As both countries are part of the EU and open market / open borders apply you will not becharged additional VAT or Duty on the importation of a telescope / binoculars from Germany. - The only additional charge that you will be expected to pay will be carraige.
I myself have bought stuff in from there and had no problems what soever!

Pat,
My understanding is that you will only have to pay for shipping.
And yes, substantial savings can be made by shopping around europe.
clear skies,

Bought my Meade LXD75 from Telescope House, London, two months ago. No additional VAT or duty. Same as my Canon EOS 300D.
I buy everything that isn't food or petrol overseas. Something for Bertie to sweat over, not me.

You don't pay anything extra for EU countries, provided it's for your own personal consumption. The only exception is cars. It would be a different story if your scope were coming from the US, however...
