Those are interesting ideas about the mallincam and projector, but I for one would not get it but there is nothing stopping a club getting that setup, something to consider.

I'll be available for hire, just require bed and board and petrol money

Forget about the mallincam even. It would be pretty cool to be able to project simple webcam live moon/lunar images for outreach

Did I read about someone doing this at the AI StarBQ. If so I am sure the guy would have preferred to carry around and setup a projector that fit in his pocket than a big bulky power hogging presentation/home Cinema projector.

BTW. the Eeetop PC touchscreen comes in gloss black and there are actuall 2 versions. The 1602 and 1603. The 1603 actually has ATis Mobility-Radeon-HD3450 as opposed to integrated graphics so SNP and a few other things running on it shouldn't be a problem at all. It also has a built in battery! Screen is 1366 x 768. The 1602 has the same res touchscreen but with the integrated graphics and no battery option.

No worries about the cold affecting your laptop screen. This thing has a nice warm PC mounted right behind the screen to keep it warm ;) to prevent your Liquid Crystal Display from solidifying  With no keyboard except a virtual laser keyboard one can have a much more unobtrusive dew light/dew shield built around it than a laptop would require.

Further to the moon and projector idea.

One could insert the webcam in the Stellarvue F80 finderscope and project what people are looking at for those further down the line to look at while they wait.

ie. The person currently at the scope could be using the hand controller to slew around the moon while looking through the eyepiece while at the same time people could see what that person was looking at via the finderscope/webcam/projector combination.

Another thing you could do would be hook the projector up to the Touchscreen PC. You could use Starry Night Pro on the PC displayed on the projector to give an outreach presentation out in the field!

ie. the kind of lecture Deirdre might give inside a lecture hall now could be done out in the field under the stars.

Hmmm a nintendo wii controller would be perfect for interfacing with the projected image and starry night pro in that application......something else to research! Woah!! GLP mounted on the wii controller. Starry night sky pane follows were glp and wii controller is pointing displayed on the big screen.....Lots of new possibilites my friends. :)

Just a few more ideas :)

Hi Keith,

Why go through all that expense when you can use a simple projector for outreach on to a white screen any scope will do then. So it's scope web cam projector to screen. Have a look at this video www.astronomy.ie/video/CapitalD_080403.php forward it on to 3min or so. and you will see a webcam demo on big screen by Eamonn O'Fearchain, And the way people love it.

Not sure I understand Carl. All what expense? The Microprojector is €350. ie. Cheaper than business presentation projectors, can even run on a mobile phone battery for 60 minutes as well as 12v and can fit in a pocket.

I don't blame you for not wading through my 5000 word posts in this thread  but I already pointed out that I wasn't inventing the wheel here. I referenced Eamonn O'Fearchain (didn't know his name though) and AI a few posts back as already having done this kind of thing but my point was that now the miniturisation of technology made it cheaper and easier for more and smaller Clubs to be able to start doing this kind of thing.

I also clarified that I wasn't talking about clubs getting servocat dobs and touchscreens and mallincams and the like. That was all for my own use. Things I want for myself and only then did I start thinking how this all could be used by me for outreach as well. Collating all the snippets of info from the web like that AI video, the Wiimote scope, GLP, new high tech gadgets I have read about etc and thinking of ways to combine them that might not have been done before. ie. Taking the lead from the likes of Eamonn and pondering whether recent advances in technology can take it even further.

So for the record once again, I am not saying clubs should buy 16" Lightbridges and equipping them with servocats and argo navis and touchscreen panel PC's and stellarvue finders and micro projectors. I am saying I intend to buy these and do some of these mods myself, "Oh and look what else I came across...€350 pocket projectors, Hey that is something clubs could think about"

:)
