I can hear it now (in the kitt voice)...
"I'm sorry Michael, I cant slew to M56"

I'd feel safe enough if it talked in Kitts voice but I'd start to worry if it talked in a digitised voice and said

By Your Command!

:D

Woah! Hold on there partner! I think you might be overestimating the capabilites of the system! :D

The JMI TNT motor system is definately no servocat like Daves servocat equipped Obsessionator never mind with voice recognition. No goto. I'll use my Orion Intelliscope modded DSC to locate targets and push-to them, then set the tracking on the TNT. The TNT has no electronics so it can't calculate an arcing sky track. One manually adjusts the speed of the altitude and azimuth motors until one has cancelled out motion in the eyepiece. Obviously this means one has basically set a straight line alt/az vector. So after about 15 minutes the arcing vector of the object in the sky causes it to drift gradually out of the FOV, whereupon one manually re-adjusts the motor speeds again to set a new straightline vector which lasts another 10 or 15 minutes till the object drifts out again. It most definately ain't no servocat, Sidereal Mel Bartell system nor even DobdriverII. Then again it only cost 400 euro instead of 1000 euro+

Any talk of talking scopes or voice recognition is more along the lines of, "Wouldn't it be cool if...." given the Knightrider theme of the scope :D

That said, wouldn't it be cool if.....Gary Myers at Stellarcat and/or Gary Kopf at Argo Navis saw the scope, recognised that it was one, if not the most heavily modified and coolest Meade Lightbridges on the planet and realised that it would be great publicity to get their Lightbridge versions of their respective products (they both have versions of their gear tailored specifically to the Meade Lightbridge market) on this scope which when finished is going to be the talk of Lightbridge circles. ie. Sell me a Servocat Lightbridge Kit and ARGO DSC for half price :D One can dream :D

Then we could really start talking about 'Talking telescopes and voice control'! :D Beg Imaginova to implement Voice recognition into Starrynight Pro and be able to say to the laptop, "GOTO M57" :D Then have a little applet in the background to play a Kitt sample everytime Voice recognition is used, "Why of course Michael" or "Are you sure about that Michael" :D :D Again, one can dream :D

I dont suppose you could mimic the lights in "close encounters of the third kind" along with music ? :silly:

Actually,
in fairness,
wouldn't voice recognition be actually very useful
in the dark!
No fiddling around with keypads or buttons.
I'm starting to think it's a brilliant idea!

I don't know why someone has not thought of it before to be honest.

Frank --

Astro-Physics has been shipping Digital Sky Voice with their GoTo mounts for some time. It needs a computer hooked up to the mount though, and since I'm visual-only I've never bothered.

Dave McD might have tried it out....

Cheers,
-- Jeff.
