Wow, thats a seriously thin mirror for that size, if it were pyrex you'd have to very carefully design the mirror cell to prevent distortion. The mirror is a fuzed silica quartz that only 3/4" (19mm)thick. I had it made by Mark Cowan of Obsidian Optics. He has it back from coating and it should be ready for shipping this week .

Well, every scope has its benifits and pitfalls, I have often found that the shroud on my truss scope induces some sort of tube currents and visiblly reduces the planetary views, but for deepsky, I do leave it on unless its windy. It is ready for observation in 10 minutes. It protect mirror and have way better contrast.

Hi Dave.
I'm using an 18 point mirror cell designed with Plop.
I have built the main Uta cage today. I have to build the spider and holder now for the secondary.
I'm building the Dob so the Uta stores inside the mirror box . The rings are 1" wide to help with this.
I'm taking pics and will post a build log as the scope progress's along.
