I am thinking of getting a Dob for Xmas. Dragging the CGE around for casual observation is getting a bit much especially at star parties where you are camping and have a full car. The GSO dobs are great value but the 12" won't fit in a Camry. I am thinking about the Lightbridge. Anyone any experience with this Dob? I don't think I can handle much more than a 12" scope.

I hear that they're optically fine scopes, only thing is their bulk, I've heard that they're heavy for their size, and some parts are made from cheaper woods which could delaminate, I guess it would be best to see one up close.

I wouldn't be a huge fan of the lightbridge after seeing it
unveiled in astrofest a few years back.
Unless they changed the design, the timber to me looks not up to Irish weather
but I suppose in your climate it'd be grand.

Think I will go with the 12 inch lightbridge. There is a good deal on them until Xmas with a full set of Meade 4000 eyepieces which I can sell.
Does anyone have experience transporting one of these machines in the average family car?
Does anyone transport the 16 inch? I have a Toyota Camry but not an estate car.

Dropped into the Bintel store in Sydney today and ordered the 12" Lightbridge. I also get a full set of Meade SP eyepieces free which I can sell on.

Calibos has shown how he can squeeze his 16" Lightbridge into his Audi TT, I would imagine that with some manhandling of the seats it should not be a problem with a 12".
