Surely they should be called “Euronauts”

Russian: Cosmonaut

American: Astronaut.

European: Euronaut

Or in Ireland’a case: “Eironauts”.

But that would mean they would be sailing Europe.
The word "naut" means Sailor.
The term spationaut is sometimes used by the French.

Ok.

The Irish word is "Speir".

So an Irish space traveller is a "Speironaut".

As well as that:

The Irish word for sailor is “mairnealacht”.

So an Irish space traveller is a “Speirmairnealacht”

Yeah.... but Speir means sky. You should really use Réalt for star or Spás for space. Hence

Réaltmairnealacht or spásmairnealacht. :D
