Quick question lads on hard drives:
I have an ATA hard drive. My motherboard has SATA ports. I presume there is no issue with having an operating system working of an ATA hard drive and having a second hard drive which is SATA?

No problem at all.

Mind you, the other way round would be much better. You want your system files to be on as fast a disk as possible.

hmm... personally I'd want my applications and data on the fastest disk. The OS should not need to be reading and writing the whole time. ok windows performance is not a strong point of mine! but on the unix servers at work the OS disk is fairly inactive compared to the data storage & application disks.

Thanks Lads.
I have Win XP Pro and all my applications installed on one hard drive and my data on another. As a first step, I'd like to get all the data onto a newer faster disc with the older disc as a backup. Of course, it would be ideal to get the OS working off a fast disc also.
In terms of backing up my e-mail (addresses, e-mails in inbox, settings, etc), I just need to backup my .pst file - is that correct?

Just shows you how primitive even today's computers are.
I should know, with my first class honours degree in I.T. and computing.
