Want to try Linux?

Its at work, and the pc there that I've got it on has 512MB RAM, and is on an Athlon 1600. I formatted a spare hard drive, and put Fedora exclusively on that.
I'm going to put it on an old P3 at home, with only 256MB RAM, so its going to be even slower on that 1! I have another 2 P4's, but I am not going to put it on one of those yet. I need to test run it so that I know I can use some of its programmes, or while I wait for Linux versions of other W98 programmes I've got.

Seanie.

Sounds like Fedora is starting up way too many services then 512 should be plenty. My SuSE 9.1 box flies along with that much,

I have 512 MB RAM in my laptop and Fedora rockets along. Sounds like sometihng funny is a foot. Did you install it with all options selected or something?

No, I just selected the cutom option, and I haven't installed anything else. I was messing round with the NIC options, and I seem to have improved that a bit. It loads faster now that I have the NIC configured correctly. Almost as fast as W2K closing and loading now!

This post has nothing to do with the ins and outs of linux but a major observatory in the South Pole uses linux.

I'd be interested too John. I am currently trying to get the hang of Fedora Core 2.

Hi Seanie,

I brought 2 CDs down to Birr with me, I found out who Michael O'Connell was but I couldn't find you! - So anyway, the second CD ended up in the PC that was in the function room, the man who owned that PC wanted to have a look at Knoppix.

Hopefully either Michael's copy, or the one from that PC will find its way to you eventually!! :)

And I brought the 5 CD's of Suse 9.1 down and forgot to give them to anyone!
