Nice work John! Gee whizz, there is lots of detail in Keith's shot! This diagram could be a good reference source to look for those objects too.

have added some labels of deep sky objects in Keith's AMAZING shot of the Summer Milky Way.

thanks Seanie . . . though one thing I was thinking of if I ever got a 300D or similar DSLR is to try and compile a photographic star atlas with a corresponding plate labelling the deep-sky objects, etc. Anyone interested in taking up that challenge?

Thanks guys, I'm glad you think it's good, especially since I travelled 160 miles :shock: for that shot!!
Michael, as far as giving lessons - just attention to detail & common sense,
pick your target, get the right lens, make sure the lens is clean, make sure you've checked and charged the batteries, polar align very tightly, no matter how long it takes, oh, and yeah, check the damn weather
John, those labels are great, very good idea, they have great value in teaching people their way arond the sky! Excellent!
Go ahead and use this photo or any other for observing challenges, a photographic atlas is a super idea!!!
