No Perseids but a nice consolation prize was created by ayiomamitis
Guys,
Worrying that I would not image any Perseids very early this morning (previous negative experience), I decided to play it safe and have a double target as a precautionary measure so that my all-nighter would not be nothing.
Well, unfortunately I did not get my Perseids and the low activity did not help but my backup plan worked like a charm. I still need some minor processing but I am absolutely delighted to present the following taken under mag 6.5+ skies and 2.5 hours southwest of Athens: www.perseus.gr/Astro-Star-Trails-2005-08-13.htm .
Clear skies!
Anthony.

Anthony, great shot. How are you keeping the 300D powered for 5 hours?

Brilliant shot Anthony. I tried that once with film, years ago, wasn't quite as good though

Lovely stuff Anthony, a real prize after your nights work. Beginning astrophotographers should take note, Star trails are a great way to start doing astrophotography without getting into all of the complexities normally associated with it.
I noticed you can see the tiny gaps between exposures. Can I suggest that you rewind the heavens a tiny bit between exposures.
John O'B: When I bought my 300D, I also bought the optional battery pack. This takes two liOn batteries. I dont know how long it would go for as I've never tested it, but I'd say 5 hours wouldnt be out of the question. Its never run out on me
