Anthony, great shot. How are you keeping the 300D powered for 5 hours?
Hi John,
I have the Battery Pack upgrade which allows me to have two such batteries feeding the camera. I can get six hours of CONTINUOUS exposure with two such batteries in action.
I also turned off the preview mode after each exposure so as to conserve as much power as possible for the evening.

Brilliant shot Anthony. I tried that once with film, years ago, wasn't quite as good though

Hi Bill,
I am also a film user ... actually an EX-user. Once you go digital, it is virtually impossible to go back.

Hi Dave,I noticed you can see the tiny gaps between exposures. Can I suggest that you rewind the heavens a tiny bit between exposures.
This is my only disappointment about the final result and it has to do with the slow writing of each image to the flash card between exposures. I tried using some software tricks to lose the little gaps but it will not work.
I am trying to get my hands on a much faster flash card so that in three weeks' time I will have the same masterpiece but with continuous trails throughout the image.

Hi Dave,holy moly,
thats an amazing image, the lines are so vivid.
Part of the trick to getting very sharp colours is to very slightly defocus the lens. I cannot really explain why and how but it does work wonderfully!
I have a special upgrade (Battery Pack 511 or something similar) which allows me to simultaneously load and use two batteries instead of one.Did you keep the camera powered using a mains transformer ??
I cannot say enough good things about this camera. It not only has increased my productivity but it also has elevated the quality of my work as well.I havent had time to explore building my own yet, will do sometime before the end of then years hopefully.

How is the image so clear of light pollution though? When I tried my own star trais photo with Orion here , from what I thought was a good dark site for a 30 minute exposure put an orange wash over the image!
