I must admit, this mod is starting to look a whole lot more attractive. Basically with the clear glass in place and using an XNite CC1 filter (for daytime use) you get your normal camera with the extra sensitivity required for astro use. 72mm full aperture for the standard lens available for $106

The trickiest part of the mod seems to be cutting the clear glass to the correct size. Of course an other option might be worth looking at is getting hold of a secondhand 300d and modifying it purely for astro use.

That in itself is expensive. I'm always on the lookout for an affordable second hand 300D. To me, if you want to do the mod, try getting the glass cut to size, it would be cheaper!
