Folks - continuing on from last weeks lame topic title (A Star is Born), here's the latest Trapezium image (M42).

As mentioned in the last topic, I took this image with the Lumicon Ultra High Contrast filter and was pleasantly surprised. The additional detail is fairly subtle, but the filter *does* help on nebulosity. I cut the exposures down to 30 sconds (from 60 the last time) so it would be interesting to see how much extra detail would come out with the extra exposure

I'll have to try it on some planetaries... I'll also have to try it with the ETX70 for a wider field.

With Orion climbing higher and the clocks going back, imaging opportunities are definately improving!

Cheers

Dave

Agreed, this image is a tad more sharper, and more nebulous too. Nice work!

Thanks Seanie, Martin and Dave. It took a bit longer to get focus through the filter for this shot. I had to shoot a few 30 second images, moving the focuser between each one.

It certainly seems a lot sharper than the last image and I *do* see a difference between filter/no filter. The UHC definitely improves the nebula contrast.

It might be the filter or it might be the better focus that has also reduced the star bloat - you can make out all four trapezium members. It might be a combination of both of course!

Seanie - next step is to get a shot through the ETX70 and show you what that cracking little scope can do :D

Cheers

That would be great Dave! I have seen some images that Dave Lillis has taken before with his ETX-70 and a ToUCam, but I would like to see a 'close-up' of something like this - even with your DSI. Keep me posted...
