Just to whett your appetite Neil, here is an image Dave Lillis made up of different shots he took of Venus in the couple of months prior to the Transit in June 2004:

That second last one is 2 days before the Transit I think.

Thanks Seanie (I had already checked that one out but it's well placed in this thread). Brilliant sequence Dave! Something similar for Mars would be excellent, especillay if the gibbous phase grows significantly - you could always Photoshop in the cresent effect :lol:
