I've now updated the post mod report to include some test photos I took with the XNite CC1 colour correcting filter which I received today.
I have my old camera back now, maybe even better than before!

Dave,
Now that the Turkey trip is over, I intend modding the camera. One question though:
I heard recently that if one mods the camera and shoots in RAW mode, one doesn't need the CC1 filter for daylight images...is this correct?

Not really true Michael. You can use a custom white balance but its not really satisfactory. Gary Honis has an excellent discussion of this.

As you can see the CWB doesnt really cut it. To make it worse you need to create a new CWB each time the lighting conditions change.
With the CC1 you have no such problems, in fact I beleive that the cc1 is better than the original filter. I feel the colours are much more bright and vibrant with the CC1.
The only problem with the CC1 is the cost of postage for such a small filter, cost me 70 dollars or something like. I searched the net high and low and I could not find anything else which would do the job.
In short if your gonna do the mod get the CC1. Also if your in any doubt or worried at all about doing the mod, your welcome to pop over to my place and I can guide you.
One thing to be really careful of is not to get dust between the new glass and the sensor.

Thanks Dave for the clarification.
I might take you up on that offer Dave, if you don't mind.
