Thanks for the link above, its very useful and comprehensive, I had a good look through it and the mod is not as difficult as I thought it would be to do, I was almost afraid of removing the blocking filter from the cmos sensor, I thought it would have been much more integrated to the chip itself, but it seems to be on a simple frame.
I've been meaning to do this since we got back from the eclipse in Turkey, I might give it a go this week if I get some free time.

The biggest thing to be careful of is to ensure the ribbon cables go back nice and tight. In Gary honis mod pages he shows one ribbon cable which needs to be reinserted a very specific way, make note of this.

Not really true Michael. You can use a custom white balance but its not really satisfactory. Gary Honis has an excellent discussion of this.

As you can see the CWB doesnt really cut it. To make it worse you need to create a new CWB each time the lighting conditions change.
With the CC1 you have no such problems, in fact I beleive that the cc1 is better than the original filter. I feel the colours are much more bright and vibrant with the CC1.
The only problem with the CC1 is the cost of postage for such a small filter, cost me 70 dollars or something like. I searched the net high and low and I could not find anything else which would do the job.
In short if your gonna do the mod get the CC1. Also if your in any doubt or worried at all about doing the mod, your welcome to pop over to my place and I can guide you.
One thing to be really careful of is not to get dust between the new glass and the sensor.
Just a thought....
If I want to image the Moon, how will this work if the white balance is way off?
