I figured it was a wide angle shot, didn't realise it was QUITE that wide! Also, by using 1,600ISO you can get a lot of detial in very little time.
I used to be able to get shots of the milkyway without guiding using a 28mm lense and a 2 minute exposure.

this is info on pic..As I did not take it, I can just give you the info I have
30 sec at 1600 ISO, 18mm lens, at f4, Canon 300D
They were just resized to 25% and neat image used to reduce noise.

Bart et al,
You are correct, the lens was at its shortest (18mm) focal length. Even on the original at full resolution the trailing is not noticable.
That shot is looking twoards tralee (10km approx.) as it is the only light source for some siluottes.

I get trailing with only 8 sec expsure with my crapy camera :shock: hm or am i mistaking now, better look agein over the images
Edit: my mistake, i must have been thouching the camera at that image i though i had trailing on. Didnt show up on others. :oops:

That is a simply gorgeous shot. Goes to show astrophotography is much more than just flashy gear and electronics!!
