Great image Dave. WHat wavelet settings are you using.

Michael that sounds interesting what you say about using the chopped res on the TUC. I would have expected compression at the cropped size. Do you have a comparison image of both sizes??

Michael,
I've also experimented with using the full resolution of the camera, 640x480, I find that one some occasions that it does yield better images, I find it much harder to focus as the image is alot grainier and less defined, like you say.

One thing I've found with registax is that if you use 10 as the pixel search area, (the default is 2) it consistantly improved the image quality, BUT if working with 1800 frames of 640x480 at the 10 pixel search area, it can take the best part of an hour to run the AVI through registax, and thats on a 2.8GHz P4 machine with a gig of ram!

Maybe you also need something like a 4x barlow, 2x resampling in registax has never improved the image quality for me. One thing about the barlows is that if you have an 1.25" extension tube, you can increase the effective multiplication factor of a barlow considerabily beyond its rated spec by increasing the distance between the barlow and the camera.

Your seond tweak at the image was a nice one dave, love the image and detail - well done! Again, it has a 3D look to it!

I used the default method (not gausian) and layer 1 was around 60 as was layer 6, I think layer 3 was around 30, I didnt take note of these when I was doing it so I might be wrong about these as I try many different combinations and save the better resultant image.

It proves the point that 80% of a good image is in the processing.
