is more the fact that 21 frames were used that helped the sharpness, something to keep in mind during totality.

Our figures arfe virtually the same. My optimum exposure seems to be 1/500 using ISO 100. I used the partial eclipse in early Oct/2005 to practice for the total solar eclipse next week and I was delighted with the results. Here are some samples with the above combo of exposure and ISO:

www.perseus.gr/Astro-Solar-Sunspots-2005-07-05.htm
www.perseus.gr/Astro-Sat-Trans-2005-07-28.htm
Something I would strongly suggest is that you set your camera with EC +/- 1 so that the bracketing will allow you some elbow room should the sky conditions not be precisely the same as during your testing.
Best wishes with the weather next week!
Anthony.

Hi Dave,... I spent the entire afternoon practicing with the canon and the scope and camcorders.
For my setup (canon 300d +4" refractor), an iso speed of 100 and expsoure of 1/400 seems good ...

Great images Anthony,
your scope is a completely different beast to what I'll be using so I dont expect to catch the level of detail in your images.
