Now that would be telling...
OK - I'm considering the Finger Lakes Proline body with an E2V back illuminated thinned CCD plus research grade 2" BVRI filters. Tasty, at a tasty price...

What OTA/imager is top of the list at the moment?

Nice ones Dave!
Seriously though, B+W is a doddle. It's not 'till you try processing in colour that you're heads done in. Keep it goin' man we want your best and your well capable of it. M57 and Eagle just show what you can do.
I know sometimes you think of these as just the pretties, but they do reach a wider audience than any amount of serious science, and can have a great effect on anyone newly interested in Astronomy. Please try to do more in colour - I know it has a greater effect on me, so I'm sure others will agree.

I agree, colour all the way, its much more dramatic, but a pain to process.
Keep up the good work Dave,

Cheers John - of course B&W is easier to process but I agree that the colour images are more appealing (well, for objects that have some colour in them!).
I'll keep slogging on with the colour for now but the new imager won;t do colour and I'm not getting RGB filters. I guess BVRI could produce interesting pseudo-colours that I'm sure folks would like to see...
As far as the science goes, you're right. If that's all I did I think I'd go mad. As it stands, I reckon science is no more than 30 or 40 % of the stuff I do. It may creep to 50 or 60 but I'll always keep some time for the fun stuff. Both for myself but also to spread the gospel to the unwashed
I'll keep it going Dave L - just for you
Cheers
Dave

Dave,
thats some nice work there, thanks for entertaining us with our colour requests! The Eagle nebula is superb, even if, in colour, sharpness seems to be a bit of an issue. Would it be correct for me to say that perhaps the colour process brings out the blurred effect from certain frames more easily?
But parts of your Ring Nebula appear 'over exposed'. Its like there is too much white in the ring colour perhaps? A lot of red in it too.
Don't get me wrong, I appreciate how hard it is to get a colour image from your b&w sources, just take it as tips for your next colour processing endeavour!
