Hers an image from last night.
webtreatz.com/component/option,com_zoom/...geNo,5/key,37/hit,1/
26 July 2006 - Raheny Dublin C9.25XLT @ f/6.3
16 x 3 min exposures on Canon 300d (Modified) ISO800.
Darks Flats and Bias processed in Images Plus v2.75, final processing in Neat Image Pro and Paint Shop Pro v7.0.
I'm not sure whether I prefer this wider version to the full res zoom here;
webtreatz.com/component/option,com_zoom/...geNo,5/key,38/hit,1/
I'd be interested to read which version you prefer.
Its also interesting to compare this to my image from last year , You can really see the difference the modified camera makes (not to mention a load more exposures, darks flats, bias etc!!

Those are great images Dave, they are honestly wothy of inclusion in any book or encyclopedia about Astronomy.
The improvement between this year's and last year's imges is very impressive.

Dave - not sure I see a difference between last year and this year...
I prefer the wider field view - the zoomed in version shows up some (very marginally) eggy stars. The wider field puts the Dumbell into a better context I think but still shows up the detail.
I think this must be one of the best images you've taken and processed. I really can't find anything to fault Great focus, integration, colour, framing and a great subject! Its all the more surprising that you got such a good image at this time of year.
I guess we've all learned over the last year or so that in order to get images of this quality you need to start off with good raw data (exposure durations and number of images) and calibration frames.
Well done and thanks for sharing such a good image.

Hi Dave,
I prefer the full frame version, maybe the closershot could use some sharpenening?
Make hay while the sun shines!
Later,
Jed.
