This is an excellent image! I had a very similar result with virtually the same equipment as yourself ... see www.perseus.gr/Astro-Milky-Way-20050710.htm . It is scarry how well the standard kit lens which comes with the camera performs. It may be cheap and plastic BUT it does a very good job on widefield astro work.
Please keep them coming.
Anthony.

Michael, those are stationary points of light on the coastline, they just look like streaks as my camera was tracking the stars on my C8, which was moving right and down.what are the two white streaks to the right of the image? Satellites?
As above Ray, Just a well polar aligned C8 on piggyback, you'll get away with little trailing since the field is so wideJust wondering what sort of tracking system you use
Albert, Just the standard 18-55mm lens that comes with the 300, and now 350D when you buy itWhat lens exactly is that you are using?
You said it, Ithought that this lens would be poor too, but at 18mm wide it's great! Lovely shot by the way ! Was'nt this in Sky and Telescope some months ago?It is scarry how well the standard kit lens which comes with the camera performs. It may be cheap and plastic BUT it does a very good job on widefield astro work.

Yes, it was in S&T (Nov/2005 issue as I recall). Great memory at your end!

That is another world class image. I just love how the teapot of sagittarius jumps out.
I just noticed two lines at the horizon over towards the right. Any idea what these are? Maybe meteors?
Well done!

As I replied to Michael earlier they are either points of light on the coastline, or I've just thought  could be light from the fishing boats out doing a night's work from dunmore east
(I'd rather be shooting away more fun - less wet)
