Reprocessed the original M8 OIII image. Took the original above and made a duplicate and processed to a false SII image, then combined these to to get this image:

Then took original and made another duplicate in gray scale, adjust brightness and contrast along with unsharp mask:

Then took the combined Original and SII image and combined this with the gray scale for final results:

You can tell I was bored at work today. :D :D

But can I add a remark? :oops: There are more red stars than I think there should be in there! Too much processing in Photoshop?

Seanie a narrowband shot like that is effectively a monochrome image. Therefore depending on the camera and how its processed it will show predominently one colour or another. In order to get a better dynamic range of colours you would have to either;

Combine it with SII and H-Alpha narrowband shots or
Take a full set of RGB data and use the OIII image as a luminence channel.

Hi Tom,

Forgive me, but why did you go through that process? Surely no matter what way you recombine the same data all you are going to do is effectively alter the hue and saturation. WHat I am saying is that if you average 2 copies of the same data all you get is the original data?

Am i missing something?

Yes, you are right Dave. But it was fun and interesting just how much you can change an image by combining with itself. Plus it was good practice for when I do start to combine 2 or more images.
Like I mentioned in post, was bored at work, and just started to play around. :D :D :D

Ah I see!!

Here's something relevant which I've been discussing with another images plus user (Jed glover).

My normal procedure for processing sets of filtered images is roughly as follows;

Automatic Image calibration (on each channels set of images)
(sometimes I grade, sometimes I dont)
Translate and Rotate
Combine.
I then have say 4 images (e.g. LRGB)
I then DDP each image
The I do a Translate scale and rotate.
The do Auto colour combine
Rest of processing (filtering etc)

Now the other way Jed suggested is to do the DDP after the colour combine. WHats your take on this woody?
