Thanks folks - the seeing wasn't great and the DSI is at its limits.
Seanie - rather than trailing, the 'artifacts' are a combination of what seems to be coma and possible some field rotation. But I'm not certain.
I checked polar alignment but that was fine. Since sky conditions have been rubbish lately, it may be a while before I get to the bottom of it.
