Just wondering if anyone has managed to get one of these for astrophotography yet. If so I'd be very interested to hear your experience. I'm considering one but would love some feedback first.

Sorry no. But I'm thinkin' of buyin' a 350D for €690 or so from Dixons for christmas. What mods if any do I need to make for Astrophotography?

Folks,
There is one in MINT condition on Astromart right now for $700 (or less than 550 euro). I saw one about two weeks ago for $650.
Personally I am waiting for the EOS 5d with its 35mm chip to drop further in price.

John there are no mods you 'have' to make. But if your up for it, you can dramatically increase the sensistivity of the camera, particularly in the H-Alpha wavelenght, by replacing the internal color correcting filter with clear optical glass. You need to keep in mind that if you wish to use the camera after this for regular photography then you will need to use an external color correcting filter like the XNite CC158. The alternative is to use a custom white balance but this is far inferior to filter option.
I've modded a few 350D's and 300D's in this way and it works very well. The procedure is really one of disassembly and re-assembly and cutting the new glass to the right size.

As I've said to you I'm getting one early in the new year. Will mod either it or the 350D then.
BTW
Since when have you been a member of the IAS????
