First Try at Astro Photo

Hi Guys.

This is my first attempt using a cheap web cam to image the moon. Just thought I’d share it with you. It is also my first attempt at loading an image to this forum!!! :lol:
So what do you think. Have i a future?

Nice work. Its much better than my first attempt using a 35 mm film camera I feel inspired to have another go !!

Its grand enough for a first go, you have to start somewhere.
Look like you put the web cam with its lens up to the lens of the eyepiece.
What kind of web cam did you use, is it a single frame ?

Yes it’s a single shoot. I was using a web cam bought in Argos, a Labtec price €18. I held it to the lens but it began to fog up. Can you use it with out the lens?
I also used my finepix camera but the results were poor

I have never used a webcam, but from what I know, you need to record some footage using web camera. Then stack this in registax. (registax splits the movie into individual frames and layers them ontop of each other to bring out the detail). You should be able to get decent enough pics with the finepix. you need a way to mount to the scope (orion steady pix is a mount made just for this..I got one recently and have used it a few times.) I was able to take pics with a digicam held up to eyepiece and also record some movie clips using camera. the results are ok.

first of all well done on the image the first rule is that practice makes perfect. no.2 get yourself a good webcam. the philips toucam are great for the job. or the neximage webcam although i have no experience with that one it is made by celestron. if you take out the stardiagnol and put your webcam into the visualback you will get better results with crisper images that are a lot closer to the moon. if you need any more help pm me and i can give you all the help you need.
