Congrats on your first astrophoto ... which by the way is very good.
The EOS digital cameras allow for something called "exposure compensation". I will purposely not describe it further so that you will purposely have to read up on it and, in passing, it will quite often prove to be your best friend when imaging the sun (filtered), the moon and other events such as eclipses.
Congrats again and we now all look forward to many more photos from you!

The Canon EOS 400d has 10.1 megapixels.
A 25% advance on the 350d.
Bought mine in Dixons last month for 800 euros.
Stunning camera.
Peter.
Congrats on the new camera! Hope you enjoy it!
The 400d has some interesting features. Interesting how Canon can develop small tweaks with each model.
However, both cameras have the same physical size chip. Personally, I wouldn't read too much into the megapixel game, unless you're printing large posters.
Clear skies,

Actually Dave the shot was taken on Saturday at around 16:30, it was misty, occasional cloud and seeing was naff. I was really just checking that the setup would work.
Thanks to all for the kind comments. And so the next curve approaches.

This is precisely it .... they keep shrinking the pixel size while keeping the pixel array the same (or even making it slightly smaller). For deep sky work, I am not sure if there will be a problem at some point due to the image scale leading to way oversampled images.

One thing I'd say is that maybe use a slightly longer exposure next time so the moon will look a little brighter or maybe brighten it up abit using software.
Still, an excellent first shot.
