M81 in HA,G,B was created by DaveGrennan
Well I got hold of nice shiny new set of 2" interference filtes (from astronomik, as was the price!). I started simple under wonderully clear skies last night and into this morning.
I decided to use my HA filter instead of the red to give nice definition in that channel.

23 January 2006 - Raheny Observatory Dublin 6 x 7.5 minutes in HA(Red), G, and B channels. 10" f/4 reflector, Baader coma corrector. Astronomik B and G filters, Baader HA filter ATIK 16HR. Processing in Images Plus 2.8 and Neat Image Pro.
Clearly composite colour imaging is a whole new ball game and takes a lot of fiddling to get right. With that said I'm pretty happy with this as a first go! One thing I hope to try this week is to take a set of red data and a full spectrum L channel image and see if I can do better.

Smashing image Dave!! You can really see the knots of material that came out strong in the Ha filter.

Hi Dave,
I think that is a great image of m81.
ps
I know how hard it is now to do LRGB  my hat is off to you

Dave - nice image of the galaxy.
There's something funky going on with the red channel - the right side of the image is redder than the left both in the galaxy and the stars. Could that be some kind of optical effect? (see star lower right hand side). Did you use/take flats?
Also, how did you get the diffraction spikes? Did you use some cotton?
This is an interesting technique. I hope you get some good clear weather to give it a good old lash again. I'd be really interested to see you image some other objects using this combination.
Cheers
Dave

By the way, does any of your processing software have any means of avoiding core burnout?
Myself and Michael O'C were over in Bristol at the weekend at an imaging workshop. This was one of the subjects coevred. MaximDL (and other packages) utilise routines to do this (DDP in MaximDL).
Cheers
