Saturn with some decent seeing at last was created by dave_lillis
Hi,
I have been trying to get an image like this for the past 2 months but the seeing always let me down, until last night,
farm1.static.flickr.com/134/380616103_c24ff15a35_o.jpg
The cassini division was very visible in the single frames, I used the toucam at 10fps, when I used 5fps (theoretically the best detail), it was more blurred as if the seeing was affecting it more, if I went more then 10fps, the image was too dim and noise became very evident when trying to boost the brightness.
No sign of the encke division, I had a good look at it in photoshop and the cassini division at its narrowest is only 2 pixels wide, so I think I need a better camera to get it clearer, or a higher barlow maybe. I'm surprised at how visible the C ring is.
I used a 12"lx200 + 3xteleview barlow + unmodified toucam pro + IR blocking filter.
The teleview barlow is the business, it has practically no chromatic abberation, pretty much perfect.
I captured 4200 frames and stacked 1900 frames which gave me a 88% quality number. I expanded the canvas size in photoshop as I think the image stands out alot better with a big dark background.

Dave,
That is an AWESOME image. One suggestion: see if it can stand up to some oversampling (ex. 25%). When the seeing is good and you have a lot of useable frames, oversampling is quite doable.
Anyway, this one IS a keeper!

Wonderful image Dave.
I made an attempt from South Dublin last night but between the Moon and the fog I just decided to look instead. The foghorns from Dun Laoghaire made a nice (if eerie) accompaniment tho'.

Dave. That is absolutely wonderful.
Is the RAW firmware installed on the Toucam? It makes quite a difference as there will be absolutely no compression or processing carried out. You then load into AVIRaw to get the colour image before inputting into Registax.
If you don't like the patch it can be uninstalled with a couple of clicks.
