Well that's absolutely fantastic Michael!

In terms of going wider, would a 135mm f2.8 lens be an appropriate tool or would that be too wide?

Michael - send me on the first fits image and I'll lash it into Astrometrica to see what the asteroid is (seems a bit slow for a satellite).

Also, send me on the pixel size and cip size of the CCD. I'll use a 500mm focal length.

Fantastic image Michael ... as Trevor said, it's almost like the Hubble Deep Field.

I think the asteroid is 286 Iclea. From SkyMap Pro it looks like that was the interloper. The asteroid was magnitude 13.8 the night you took the images and is tracking through the galaxy field at the moment.

A Main-Belt asteroid, it was discovered in 1889 and is 97 kilometres in diameter.

atb,

John

Thanks lads.

I tried 12 x 5min exposures through a moonlight & hazy sky this evening. Aimed the little refractor at M60 in Virgo.

If the last one was "deep", this one is a bit "shallower" I think... Not quite as many galaxies unfortunately.
