A good start Frank, there is some definite belt detail visible there
How many frames did you stack to get that ? What was the seeing like ?

Thanks lads, yea I'm delighted with it.
It's only my second time seeing Jupiter so to get a half alright
image also was a bonus.

Dave,
I stacked 2000 frames.
The seeing was very bad.
I can remember seeing Jupiter back in August and the belts popped
out clear as a bell.
It was very hard to make them out with all the atmospheric distortion.
The fact that it was getting bright didn't help either!

Thanks lads,

At our meeting tonight I was told about a piece of cool software
called Jupiter2 that shows the transits of the moons and the GRS.

So based on the time of my AVI and the info from this
that little 'black spot' I noticed was indeed the shadow of Io.

(At least I'm hoping thats what it is and not my wishful thinking!)

To double check, I reprocessed the AVI and pushed the levels
a little harder to sharpen it up...
There is a black dot there ok...in the right place....

What do ye think...Is it the shadow? :?

Is your 'dot' lower-right of centre? I personally doubt it would be an Io transit dot on such a small image.

By the way, upon second 'inspection' of your (first) image Frank, did you trace a black circle around Jupiter? Nothing personal, but the edge of the disk just looks, well, unnatural for a not-so-sharp image.
