Exactly what I was thinking, be very careful with canned air, the propellant can come out as a liquid and is very difficult to get off optical surfaces.

Just do it again with a better brush.

Hi Darren

What I use for my CCd camera is JOHNSONS (they seem to be the best) q tips and some (very little) distilled water. Unforunteately it's a very hit and miss procedure. U must keep trying until the CCd is clean of spots. The best I can suggest is to clean then image then clean again until U get a satisfactory result. With planetary imaging (unlike deep sky) with everything magnified so much even the tiniest spot can seem huge on the CCD chip.

BTW if it is Deep sky work that your friend is doing then a flat field will remove any spots etc.

Darren,

When I need to clean mine. I use a lens pen. Before doing so I use a blower buld to blow away anything loose by holding the camera upside down so that anything that comes away, falls away. I brush the pen vigourously off a clean finger to shake away any loose hairs or dust that might be clinging to it. I then turn the camera upside down and gently dust away any remaining particles.

Works well for me.

Regards and Clear Skies,

Dave.
