Carl,

The threaded bar that is in the CGE mount - how do you get this out to replace it with the new one from the pier ??? Mines stuck fast and am afraid to pull too much as I'll ruin the thread on it. I have the nut loose but cannot get the bar to come away from the top ???????

Pier's in.

David

David,

I don't recall having a big issues removing mine. I do remember having to get an old tea towel wrapping it round the threaded bar and then unscrewing with a super-wrence (you know one of those self-locking wrenches. The old tea towel prevents the thread on the bar getting ruined.

Just give it a bit of welly while protecting the thread with the old cloth.

As for the plates, well I managed to get hold of 6 of these from a guy I know. They were pffcuts from a job he was doing. Unfortunately they are all now holding up someones CGE, mine, Carl's and Gary Clarkes.

David, Initially I put springs between the plates but I found that this caused the mount to 'bounce' when vibrated so I removed them and replaced them with rubber washers which I made from rubber strip which I have loads of. If your site is subject to vibration (mine is 25ft from the dart line) then the rubber washers do a great job. If you don't have any vibration issues you probably don;t need to worry. If you want the rubber I can leave some in the AI office for you.

Dave.

Thanks Dave,

Got it free eventually - took two of us. There was glue also on the thread top.

Anyway the new bar fitted in well and I cut a little 'long' for the electric pier but she settles in ok with a little push. The 3 screws engage ok after a little coaxing.

I got 'square' plates and set it up like Carl's picture. Looks ok and appears rock solid. I've yet to add the OTA as I've a bit of work to do with the dome remote automation installation (motors are in and ok) and things would be a little tight.

There's more wiring in this than a nuclear device
