You could have saved nasa alot of money back in the 70s and 80s if you could have given them this scope, some amazing detail there !

As noted by others, these are incredible images. I tried checking the website for the camera used and they do not provide pricing (but require an email for the same ... no thanks).

Can you shed some light (sorry for the pun) as to how expensive the camera is? Are you using the model with 200 fps? Colour or monochrome?

Anyway, congrats for some of the finest images I have ever seen!

The camera is about US$1100, when I bought mine the exchange rate meant that it cost me almost $2k in australian pebbles :-(

I'm using the monochrome model with the Kodak KAI0340DM ccd (ie the dual readout, can do full frame 8bpp at 240fps or 16bpp at 120 fps). In practice my mirror collects enough light for me to reach between 40 and 45fps on Jupiter, but on bright targets like the moon I can get close to 100fps. The limiting factor is how fast I can write the images to my hard disk.

Bird,

Thanks for the info. The price is not as bad as I would have expected.

The USD has also been seriously dropping the past few days and is just shy of 1.38 against the EURO ... I will have to take a close look at the camera since the frame rate is most impressive.

Anyway, thanks again for the info and certainly congrats on some of the finest photos I have ever seen of Jupiter ... and I have been around for some time.
