Required Accessories..? was created by Karl2oo7
Hey there!

My first post on the board! Recently found this website. Pretty nice!
Astronomy isn't so dead after all!

I recently purchased a Canon 400D for which I bought specifically for astrophotography. I want to attach it to my C11 Schmidt Cassegrain.
So do I require a Canon T-Ring, a tube (I think it's referred to as a T-Adapter?) or both?

I will also at some stage like to attach it to the eye piece. What is required for this?

Thanks

Karl.

Hi Karl and welcome to the boards.

Yes you'll need a Canon 'T-Ring' which you attach to the camera body

and a 'T - Adapter' to attach this to the C11

Best of luck.

Frank.

Will I get these two in Astronomy Ireland?

Also, I'm looking for an electric focuser, which will greatly minimize the vibrations in the unit I get when focusing with the default focusing knob.
I've seen them on telescopes.com for $159 made by Celestron, but apparently they are 400 euro or so to buy over here. Telescopes.com do not ship Celestron products outside of America & Canada.
Any of you guys have experience with focusers that tend to be very delicate on the unit?

Hi Karl, the unit that cost 400 euro is the moonlite focuser witch cost £264.99 inc. VAT and the MoonLite PC interface for motor focus cost is £114.99 inc. VAT all sterling. So 400 euro is a very good price. but the focuser you want is the

witch will cost app 200 euro.

Hi Karl,

I bought the same camera at the start of this year to hook up to my CGE-1100 and haven't regretted the decision since.

Yes, you'll need the ring and adapter. In addition, you'll need some additional hardware and software to get the best out of the setup. There are a number of popular software tools which you might find useful to help focus and manage the image capture process (I use ImagesPlus). The software will run on any reasonable laptop and I also connect the laptop to the camera with a "DSUB" interface system from Shoestring Astronomy. You can email me as chris@avondalepark.com for details.

The most important piece of advice for anyone getting in to astrophotograhpy is to start slowly and be ready for a long but fun learning curve.
