IC1396 & Elephants Trunk was created by phoenix
Not the time of year to be doing LRGB images. By the time I was taking the blue run the sky was already bright at 3.45am. It was also a brilliant night for meteors with one very bright one and loads of fainter ones.

Hi Kieran
I was going to write a few sentences in reply, until I looked carefully at your picture, this picture speaks for itself, it’s an amazing shot and well done indeed, there are so many stars I can only stare in wonder.

Kieran, with which of the scope/camera combination did you take this photo and what was the exposure details? There appears to be a continuous linear feature across the middle of frame at an angle of ~25 degrees, looks to be a satellite track but I am not sure! Well done and thanks for posting

Very nice! Is that a meteor trail I noticed below the bright yellow star that is situated above centre in the photo?

Mike,

That was with the 80mm & H16. L:R:G:B 50:40:30:20 minutes.
Had to drop 60 minutes of data due to gear slipage on the lx200. Note to self "Get couterbalance"
Track is a satellite & there is also a faint blue vertical line left of centre due to increasing daylight in the blue imaging.

Thanks Kieran for the info

Ah yes the joys of astrophotography, while out last night (first time in about 6 weeks) attempting to complete some imaging, my camera simply refused to work :x , I wouldn’t mind but I only tested the damn thing last week indoors at home and everything was OK. So after some valuable time wasted I resorted to visual observing.
I’ll test the camera again this evening at home, it will probably work fine, Murphy’s Law strikes again, I just hope I don’t have to wait another six weeks for a clear night!
