A great image, especially given the time of year and weather.

Kieran,

A mesterful piece of work. I would love to see a higher res version of that as I guess the lo-res version doesn't due justice to such a fine image.

Congrats.

Correction for Seanie

The Elephants Trunk is the dark nebula below the largest star near the centre. The star is mu cephei which is a long term variable called the Garnet Star by Herschel.

Got that wrong Mu Cephei is out of the image to the right. The large close to central "star" is actually a cluster of 10 stars which I only twigged when I zoomed right into it on Cartes Du Ciel

For Dave: Image processed in Maxim rather than Photoshop

The central "star" now appears to come with knobs on reflecting the fact that its a cluster. I also noted that some of the stars have burned out centres.

The second image is much better, I've never noticed so many yellow suns before.

Kieran,

A great image just got magnificent. That higher res shot is an order of magnitude above an already great lower res shot.
