observations please was created by daveg
Hi Folks

I'd like your opinions please on what you see here. I dont want to effect any one so all I'll say is that it is an over exposed image of Venus from 30th July with slight histo adjustment in Registax..... you probably know what I'm getting at here but it would be interesting to hear peoples observations.

I had the same feeling when I pushed levels in my own images, whats on the left of the crescent is caused by the same thing as what's causing the glow on the right of the crescent.

wait a minute !!, I downloaded your image and I can see a clear brightness where the remainder of the disk should be when I put it through photoshop  :P
Looks like you've captured some night glow there.

Is that it? I spotted that, but didn't think that could be what daveg meant. I thought it was natural to be able to see it since the image is both extra large, and over exposed. The hint of darkside light is not very obvious, but it is there. The mysterious Ashen Lights perhaps? ;)

There is a brightness there alright, but I don't think it is in the exact shape of a disc. A dust moe in the top left corner is creating a darker area and causing the top left corner to appear like it *may* be curved. Optical illusion more than anything I think. Other than that, objectively, I don't think it is from the disc.
If a webcam were able to capture it with a short exposure, it would be very obvious to the naked eye. Try imaging a cresent moon for comparison.
Just my 2cent.
