Virginia Moon was created by JohnMurphy
I was lucky to be part of a small group of avid Astronomers invited to spend a night at Deirdre Kelleghan's country retreat north of Virginia in Co. Cavan.
The evening started out by treating us to a spectacular display of crepuscular rays, just as the sky was clearing for the nights viewing. The Milky Way blazed a trail across the sky and we were graced by wonderful views of DSOs all night. Deirdre did some nice sketches, and around 02:30 the waning last quarter moon offered a nice photo target. Dew was a big problem by this time with all the scopes dripping wet. My home-made dew heater really came into its own and allowed me to take a number of shots which were later stacked and processed in MS Digital Image Suite 10. Equipment used was a Canon 350D and Celestron 102SLT scope. All in all an enjoyable night was had by Deirdre, her husband Bernard (astronomer widower), Dave Brannigan IAS, Michael Murphy SDAS and myself.

Nice one John, and a good capture considering the moons low altitude at that phase at this time of the year.

Always a favourite "target" of mine when looking at the Moon.
You got a nice shot there John, though a little dark if you don't mind me saying so. It could be somewhat brighter (even if it's not to whitewash the image with lunar brilliance).

Hi John,
Astronomy Widower here,
Good to see the results of the Cavan night, your home made dew buster was really put to the task that night and the results are pretty good to booth - well done
Keep the Galileo faith, it's important for all Astronomy Widows out there to see what all that tea making is all about!!
Alias - Non Astronomer
