NGC6946 in Cepheus was created by DaveGrennan
By happy circumstance while Anthony was capturing his stunning portrait of this galaxy I was imaging it too, most likely at the same time. What are the chances??

Anyway the following result is 3 hours of data. Other details as usual under the image.

Here's my result;

webtreatz.com/component/option,com_zoom/...geNo,9/key,74/hit,1/

[later edit] I forgot to add the use of an Astronomik 2" CLS filter in the light path, in the details on the web site [end edit]

Dave,

This is an excellent result! I wish you were here so that we could load your colour camera onto my AP160 for testing purposes to see the difference between monochrome vs colour as well as apo refractor optics vs a newtonian.

Anyway, great work .... keep 'em coming.

Hi Anthony,

Thanks for the kind comments. I'm wondering would it be worth putting another three hours into this target? I'm looking at some of the extreme outer portions of this galaxy which are just starting to be hinted at in my image and wondering if another three hours might be worth it?

I'd value your opinion.

Great image again Dave.
Would be interesting if Anthony's luminosity could be added to your colour daat?

A nice portrait of one hundred thousand million suns (or so)...and numberless planets, dust clouds and gas clouds etc..perhaps even living beings.

An object whose size alone is utterly beyond mere human comprehension.

We are insignificant specks of dust on that scale.
