Look who's back was created by Frank Ryan
Yup, it's Orion.

Took this shot on Saturday morning at the end of a very long night!
It's great to see this constellation back up in the sky.
It shows Orion, Taurus and the Pleiadies.

Nice one Frank, a sure sign of the changing seasons.

A grand image Frank, i'm glad this one didnt get wrecked by my laser finder
Would you be able to push the levels a little more to brighten the image ?

Mmm...well it's actually there!
It's faint but there alright.

Now that I look at this with fresh eyes it does look dark.

I've been messing around with some new light pollution removal techniques.
I'm not so sure they are the best.
I may have to go back to my old ways.

I hate grainy images but I guess thats what you get at ISO 1600.
I didn't stop the lens right down either, I was one f-stop from fully open, just
to try and keep it as sharp as possible.
(and with the Cannon

Here is the original:

So here are a few questions for ye:
What kind of processed do ye use to help get rid of orange sky glow?

Are ye happy to live with obvious graininess?
(I've seen some APOD shots an shots printed in coffee table books where
it is very noticeable)

Which do you think makes for a better image (and why)
a - An image that is a very close represnetation of what you would have seen with the naked eye.
or b. - An image that brings out all the faint detail and shows some signs
of processing.

Great shot Frank, winter really is just around the corner!

For the removal of orange glow I use the method described here on my website....

www.pevans.me.uk/html/dark_sky.html

Also adjustment of black and white points for each individual colour.

As regards grain, some is OK but it can become intrusive when the histogram is strtched too much or if an image is oversharpened.

Likewise, processing is often essential but the indication of it being done well is that it doesn't look so processed.

Really, it's amazing the advances that have been made in the last few years!
