Blimey that was easy lol, here is the Re Edit.

Luckly I had saved stages of processing I had done in Registax 4 so it was just a case of picking a less wavelet enhanced image.

All I had to do was then add some highlights to get a more natural glow/exposure to the image.

Let me know what you think please?

Take it away James. You know how much I hate the moon
You just made it that big to sicken all us DSO hunters :D

I know you always have focus bang on and the less sharpened image works very well.

Great image, my eyes hurt from looking at it too long. Move over Carl, there is another man in town

That looks much better James.

One of the things I find annoying about working unsharp mask when applied on the moon is that it creates a bright edge to the moon. On your new small image, the moon looks much more natural but a very faint hint of what I call the white-edge effect can be seen on the left hand side. (Sorry if I seem nit-picky but just trying to offer constructive advice - I've struggled to process moon images before so know what you are going through.)

What I do to avoid the white-edge effect is to limit the area of the moon that the unsharp mask is applied to. I draw a lasso around approx 85%ish of the moon, right-click and select feather (the lassoo is drawn parallel to the edge of the moon, but just inside the edge, if that makes sense). This gives you the option to select a number of pixels. The more pixels, the more the unsharp mask gets dissipated at the area around the lasso. The number of pixels you select depends on the size of your image, so trial and error is needed here. By using the feathering function, you are sharpening most of the moon, but helping to preserve the outer edge from that white-edge effect - getting the best of both worlds.

Hope this makes sense and is useful. If not, feel free to ask a few questions.

Hi James, the moon is an awesome place, your image shows what a challenge it is to photograph. So many contrasts, so many features, so highly illuminated.

I love the way Tycho and it rays dominate and seem to hold the moon like a giant hand. Proclus and its rays look great, as always, wonderful image. Plato as grey as ever, so much to look at, so much to pick out.
